History

Hotel Bel Ami is situated on what was once the west wing of the Abbey St. Germain. Whilst today, the street bears the name rue St Benoît, this, like Hotel Bel Ami has undergone several previous incarnations. Originally named rue Egouts, the street provided access to the St. Germain monastery. At the end of the 14th Century, Pope Alexander III was able to enter the monastery through a doorway situated in what is now the Lobby of the Hotel Bel Ami. Whilst, over time the Abbey lost its surrounding walls, giving way to the streets that exist today, two angels engraved into the hotel's stone facade act as a poignant reminder of the site's ecclesiastical connections, a symbolical reference to the path adjacent, namely the Path of Two Angel In recognition of her design flair and management expertise, Grace Leo-Andrieu was appointed management consultant, with overall responsibility for the concept and renovation of Hotel Bel Ami. Assembling a team comprising the architect, Christian Lalande and the interior designers' Nathalie Battesti and Veronique Terreaux, Mme Andrieu and her team set to task in completely renovating the ground and first floor of the future Hotel Bel Ami, in a relatively limited time frame.

A Diffusion of Style Set to Revolutionise Paris

Located in a converted 18th Century print works on the rue Saint Benoît, the Hotel Bel Ami is an oasis of calm and tranquillity in the heart of Paris' chic Left Bank. The 115 room and suite Hotel Bel Ami opened its doors in January 2000, following the complete renovation of the first floor, named the Premier Floor, and public areas. Directed by Grace Leo-Andrieu, the project was undertaken by a design team that included Interior Designers' Nathalie Battesti, Veronique Terreaux, and the architect Christian Lalande. With the first phase of renovation successfully completed, plans are now afoot to renovate the remainder of the hotel, namely the second, third and fourth floor bedrooms. Opening its doors on the dawn of a new Millennium, Hotel Bel Ami provides the latest modern conveniences and comforts for its clientele with Mme Andrieu's deft sense of style and a feel for zeitgeist immediately apparent. The hotel makes extensive use of the finest natural materials and simple lines to create an atmosphere of pared down luxury. With the first phase of renovation successfully completed, plans are now afoot to renovate the remainder of Hotel Bel Ami, namely the second, third and fourth floor bedrooms. Whilst the remaining 86 bedrooms are colourful and quirky, it is intended to be refurbished and brought into harmony with the whole.
