History Situated at the Parc Monceau, the Cernuschi Museum houses the collection of chinese art. Mansion was built by the reknown architect Bowlens for Mr. Cernuschi in 1873. In 1896, the hotel particuliar was donated to the City of Paris and turned into a museum. Collection The Collection is made up of some of the most beautiful pieces of chinese art that can be found in Europe. Initially, there were around 5 000 pieces made from bronze, ceramic, ivory, etc... Today, you can find over 10 000 pieces. Thanks to a judicious acquisitional policy, the museum possesses an outstanding ensemble of ancient Chinese art : neolithic pottery, jades, ivories, archaic bronzes and fuerary statuettes. Besides the masterpieces of ancient painting, the Museum houses a vey fine collections of contemporary paintings. The museum holds regular exhibitions initiating the public into Oriental art. Quit often, there are tempory exhibits focusing mostly on the Extreme Orient (Japan, China and Korea). The Museum proposes general and themed visits for individuals. Children are more than welcome to participate. Shows are organized for children every Wednesday between 2:30pm to 4:00pm, as well as for schools (reservation necessary)
