The artistic patrimony of precolonial Black Africa

The Foundation is a non profit, non commercial organization, created in Amsterdam in 1983. The Foundation' s principal aim is to encourage the knowledge and preservation of the artistic patrimony of precolonial Black Africa. It attributes study and research grants and organizes lectures.

The opening of the museum was in Paris, in May 1986. It acquires and preserves art works; the museum holds two exhibitions a year and participates with loan to other manifestations.


Exhibitions

"Réceptacles" 23 octobre 1997-30 mars 1998
Meant to keep food for humans or for spirits, to preserve and hide the most precious goods, boxes, cups, jars, spoons, and sculpted pipes are omnipresent in Africa.

Many sculptures represent characters carrying on their head or holding between their hands a bowl, standing as a link with the spiritual world.

Animations
  • Every Wednesday and from Monday to Friday during school holidays, tales sessions are proposed (for children between 5 and l0 years old).
  • Shows, lectures and round-table conferences are proposed in connection with the current exhibition.
